Valeria is a unique condominium complex located on Furnace Dock Road in Cortlandt.
It features approximately 800 wooded and landscaped acres including a 43 acre pond, and currently has only 80 condominium units on the property. Swimming pool overlooking the lake, tennis, 3 hole golf course, walking trails, clubhouse... you get the drift; quite luxurious!
Jacob Langeloth was an iron magnate, and president of the American Metal Company. Upon his death he directed that several million dollars be dedicated to building “a place of rest, relaxation and recreation for people of education and refinement at an affordable cost.” Named after his wife, who directed the resort's development and management, Valeria was designed by William Adams Delano and Chester Holmes Aldrich ,already well known as the architects who designed several Rockefeller estates and social clubs for the Whitneys, Astors and Vanderbilts.
Some of the Italian stonemasons who originally came over to help in building the Croton Dam were involved in construction. By 1949, an estimated 125,000 visitors had enjoyed Valeria's facilities. Valeria was converted to condominium use in the early 1980's.
