Avoiding The Wolf In Sheeps Clothing And Finding The Right Professionals For Your Home Purchase

Where do you look for your home purchase professionals?

Buying a home can be challenging.  Don’t make it any more difficult than it needs to be.  For this tremendous investment, you want to make sure you have the most trustworthy people working for you.  You don’t want to go the corner of a highway and pick up someone you never saw before to come into your home and be your contractor.  That sounds ridiculous, but that is pretty much what happens when you choose a contractor, electrician or home inspector out of the Pennysaver or “yellow pages”.  Referrals from knowledgeable professionals in the industry or referrals from others who have recently used their services is the best way to go.  Facebook is a wonderful tool for getting to know your neighbors and keeping up with family, however, be weary of some of the local Facebook pages where referrals are given.  If you use this method, keep in mind that you may be getting feedback from prior clients, but it is more likely that you are getting referrals from friends or associates who have never used their service.  If you go to a Facebook “Moms” or “neighborhood” page and ask for the name of a good home inspector or moving company, it is more likely that the replies you receive are from neighbors, softball team members or the parent of their kid’s best friend saying “Hire Joe, he’s the best!” when, in actuality, they never used Joe’s service, they just like him and want to help him get business.  Joe could be a wonderful guy, but a bad businessman.

When looking for a contractor or mortgage person or attorney for your real estate purchase, ask your realtor for some names, ask your real estate attorney or people you know who have just been through the same thing.  Don’t toss the question out into Cyber-land and hope that Joe really is the best.  It is the same as going to the corner of Broadway and Main streets and picking up the first landscaper who comes your way.  It’s a gamble.

There are websites like Angie’s list and Home Adviser which are designed to cut down on bogus referrals.  If you aren’t able to get sufficient referrals from people who you know and trust, this would be a preferred choice if you turn to the internet.

Don't let your home inspection or purchase go to the dogs, hire a legitimate, trustworthy professional.
