You can see the sign as you travel up the Saw Mill River Parkway through Ardsley. Next to the Wine Store and Sazan Japanese restaurant and, if using mapquest, its at 731 Saw Mill River Parkway, Ardsley. They took the Downtown Restaurant, that was short lived, and renovated the interior to a bright and comfortable diner setting.
Spiro, who owned Plaza Diner on 56th and Second Avenue in the city, and Billy who also owns Bella’s Diner in Tarrytown opened two weeks ago and have been busy ever since.
I interviewed Spiro yesterday and asked what he thought were some favorites on his menu. Of course, he said everything is good, but the biggest sellers so far are the hamburgers (which are 8 ounces with a mound of fries) and quesadillas and “south of the border” section of his menu. Also high on the list are the paninis, spinach pie and salmon cakes and burgers. Soon he will be adding homemade gyros.
Currently he is open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm, but as soon as he hires more staff, will be open for breakfast at about 8:00 a.m. in a few weeks. He said the favorite seller should be his apple orchard pancakes. Sounds great.
My husband and I tried it last night. And, agree that the burgers are huge, juicy, and do taste grilled! I looked around at what others were eating and the salads were also good size, and the teenagers seem to be biting into the paninis that also looked great. There is definitely something for everyone.
Good family place and they also have take out.
No website yet, but it seems busy enough already!
Wishing Spiro and Billy good luck in their new venture. Ardsley definitely has needed a diner, and I think this is it! Say hi to Spiro for me!
