The annual Kiwanis Carnival Fundraiser is already in progress at Robert Presser Park (formerly Webb Park) at 200 N. Central Avenue in Hartsdale. Running from August 22nd through this Sunday August 26th.
When we first moved up from New York City, our first house in Hartsdale was at 19 Harvard Drive. First house off of Central facing the park. Three weeks after moving in, suddenly we see a huge truck pull up on the grass of the park, and out marched elephants! Then the rest of the caravans with rides, and concession stands! That was 1996.
No longer do they have animals (I’m sure the Harvard Drive residents are happy about that!), but the Kiwanis Club is still having their annual fundraiser to support various causes.
Also, for those of you who have only driven by, but not stopped to look at it, in front of Robert Presser Park facing Central Avenue is a monument memorial wall for 911 victims. This consists of 1830 tile mosaics, many having to be replaced by donations in 2009. A piece of steel from the WTC was donated to our Town of Greenburgh to be added to the memorial.
