If you told me three years ago I would be diagnosed with cancer I would have thought "whatever". But it happened.
When I was first diagnosed I had no idea where I would go to be treated. If it weren't for a dear friend I would have been lost.
Almost immediately I was told GO TO MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER (Sloan). But I was in too much shock and I went to doctors that I was told to go see without doing any research on for about 2-3 weeks. BIG MISTAKE. I will not share the name of this place though because I do not want to get in trouble. But had I done my research or at the very least listened to people and rumors about the hospital I would have learned to stay away.
Anyways, after getting a PET SCAN and having a bad experience I decided okay I will go to Sloan. And I was happy I did so.
But once treatment was done I was told to get an internist. Something I had tried to do off and on since I moved to New Rochelle 5 years ago. But finding a good doctor was tough. And after my treatment I was very scared of getting a bad doctor in Westchester.
I was fairly lucky and found a doctor that was okay. I found her thanks to recommendations but deep down inside I was not getting the care I thought I deserved. But I continued with this doctor because I did not want to waste my time with another doctor. But then after taking 2 weeks to get an xray result for a problem I decided "Enough is enough" and quit going to her.
And about 6 months later I started looking for a new doctor and I found one that I really like. I am so relieved.
But the doctor I found is not listed in the listed in the article but at the moment I am satisfied and I am not looking for someone else. But if I need to in the near future I will likely try to find a doctor associated with one of the following hospitals.
By the way I am going to WestMed at Ridgehill, which reminds me of Sloan. They are caring and seem to really want what is best for me. Plus they listen and communicate with me in a manner that makes me happy.
But here are the top five hospitals listed in the article (for a full list see link above). They have either a 4 or 5 stars out of 5.
Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco – 5 stars
Hudson Valley Hospital, Cortlandt – 4 stars
Phelps Memorial Hospital, Sleepy Hollow – 4 stars
Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel – 4 stars
White Plains Hospital– 4 stars
