PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR WINTER

PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR WINTER

Keeping a list for how to prepare your home for winter can save you unwanted service bills and high heating bills!
Here are some suggestions on what to add to that list:
Outdoors:

  1. If have a sprinkler system - have it turned off
  2. Turn off exterior faucets - or the pipes will freeze
  3. Clean out gutters
  4. Check for loose or missing roof shingles
  5. Have chimney checked and cleaned
  6. Empty your lawn mower - let gas evaporate and store
  7. Check trees and shrubbery for loose limbs and trim
  8. BUY Salt in advance of winter.  3-4 bags will save you during that first rush to Home Depot by everyone needing them
  9. Make sure your snow blower is functioning and that you have gas to run it!

Indoors:
  1. When you change your clocks, change the batteries in all of your fire detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
  2. Have your furnace/heating system checked.
  3. Check windows that may need caulking or weatherstripping
  4. Reverse your ceiling fans so that heat is pushed down!
  5. Store up on flashlights, batteries and water
  6. Helpful to have a battery run radio
Keeping your “prepare my home for winter” list on your computer may make for a warmer winter.
