Westchester offers so many hidden, tranquil environments where people can get back to nature and enjoy traditional gatherings where people have actual conversations and children run and play outdoors, (even forgetting altogether about technology, but for a moment). When I first moved to Somers, I loved having a lake across the street. What I did not realize was that it was a wonderful way to become part of the community and meet new friends. My husband and I became active participants in our lake community and enjoyed the social gatherings all year round. When we had children, it was a wonderful place to spend the day. I would find that my kids could be having a cranky day at home, but once we got the lake, everyone was happy and serene. The kids could splash in the water, play in the sand, make friends, play tag, play kickball, find frogs, go fishing, take boat rides, etc etc. We would spend day after day at the lake and the kids never tired of this. It has always been a great place to relax for the adults and give them a chance to socialize.
Somers has a number of lake communities. Each of these lakes offer a variety of activities to their community members. They are all warm, welcoming havens where members build new friendships and create lifetime memories.
Some of Somers Lake Communities:
Deans Pond Association: Features boating, fishing, nature studies, sandy beach, swimming, fields for kick ball, softball, swings and slides, weekly community barbecues in the summer, bonfire camp out in the fall, summer relay race party, holiday party in December and many community events throughout the year.
Lake Purdys: sandy beach, swimming, kick ball, softball fields, band stand, community barbecues, community house which is available for rental of parties including rest rooms, kitchen, gathering hall and bar (I’ve had many parties – spectacular!), musical events, morning yoga, many parties throughout the year for.
Lake Lincolndale: maintains a beautiful beach, swimming, snack bar, and a game room and outdoor playset for the kids. The LLPOA hosts many events such as dances, luaus and corn-roasts throughout the year, and the clubhouse is fully functional with two kitchens, a large hall, and downstairs lounge for members' private events. More social activity is provided by both a ladies' organization and a men's club, though neither group is exclusive to any gender. There is always something going on at the clubhouse.
When house-hunting it is wonderful to find the perfect house, even better when it is close to a lake community where you can make new friends and make memories.
