I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry, NY. It had been on my short list of restaurants that I wanted to try for some time now.
It must be on the short list of other people too because on a Tuesday night every table was full. We didn't have a reservation, but were lucky enough to snag the last table available.
This is not your typical over-sauced chicken parm (read: Italian-American) restaurant which is huge plus in my book. Not that I don't like the regulars like Chicken Francese and the like from time to time, but you can get that in every town in Westchester.
This place was different. Even though the menu had items on it that I wasn't sure what they were, our server was extremely knowledgeable and explained and recommended some favorites.
For appetizers we had the made fresh daily mozzarella that came with bread and the house smoked sausage with lentils. For dinner, my husband had the pork osso bucco and I had the chicken "al mattone" which means "with a brick". Traditionally this butterflied chicken is cooked on the grill with a brick on top to weigh it down. When the server told me that this dish was written about in Esquire Magazine, I had to get it. All our food was delicious!
I highly recommend The Cookery. Go, you won't be disappointed.
