Last night I was in the mood to see a movie, however, not on lockdown at home, in my pi’s, looking for something interesting on Netflix. I wanted to go out!!!! Yet, it was a full moon on a Friday the 13th and my superstitious paranoia got the better of me. I just knew bad luck would fall upon me and so I was not going to travel far and deal with crowds of people who might turn into brain eating zombies looking at me licking their lips. Luckily I live in walking distance to the Pelham Picture House and so I did a quick google search to see what was playing and showtimes. Perfect, I had enough time to put my big boy pants on, walk to the theater and buy a ticket, soda and popcorn and nestle down into my seat before the movie started. Fast forward 20 minutes later, no catastrophic event and smile on face!
I notice as I get older, I look for the charm and comforting reminders of the past and the Pelham Picture House, located at 175 Wolfs Lane in Pelham, is a throwback to a time before multiplex theaters and a homage to the great picture houses of the 1920’s. But don’t brush it off as obsolete, this intimate theater is far from outdated with it’s impressive state of the art equipment and recent renovation; it shows new, independent and classic films in the big theater or the intimate 14 seater screening room with leather recliners; holds premiere events which attracts respectable names of actors, directors, and producers that participate in Q&A sessions with the audience; it also offers an excellent film education program to learn about the art, science and business of film. The Pelham Picture House is run by people who take art and a sense of community very seriously. I give it two thumbs up! Visit their websiteHERE to learn more, become a member or take a class! You will not be disappointed.
