As President of the Vernon Heights area neighborhood association known as NEIGHBORS THAT CARE, INC. since 2004, I have assisted this 501 (c)(3) entity to design and implement a neighborhood gardening project at the Graham Elementary School. This year we have a VERMICOMPOSTING PROJECT.
We're looking to fund a vermicomposting project at The Neighbors That Care, Inc. Community garden at Malcolm X Blvd. & South Columbus Avenue in the Vernon Heights section of the City of Mount Vernon, NY starting this March. It will take $500 worth of earthworms per 4' X 8' X 9" garden box of soil. We have 20 such boxes that NTC neighbors/members provided through funds they collected and donated through walk-a-thons through the City of Mount Vernon, The boxes were constructed and filled with soil by skilled and less skilled volunteer labor initially from founders of NTC lead by a Boy Scout working towards his Eagle status; then adults and children; some students; some parents; some just passersby. We want to convert four of the garden boxes for the project. Our neighborhood and schools will use them to produce 3600 lbs of top soil per year forever after from vegetable waste donated from our schools and neighbors. Call me at 914-469-1672 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to help.
