Looking for a Mid Century Modern Home? They are not easy to find! But when you find one, its gold! This style of design that was popularized from the 1930s through the early 1970s. With an emphasis on function this type of house is characterized by a contemporary, almost futuristic aesthetic.
At the time of this design’s conception, Americans were moving from the traditional two- or three-story homes (with smaller rooms that fit on in-town lots) to larger areas of land in the suburbs and building open-concept homes on a single level. Other key factors that inspired th Mid-Century Modern movement were a desire to reconnect with nature, the influence of the Space age and inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative Prairie School designs.
There is some variety among Mid-Century Modern homes, but generally they are one-story homes with an open-concept layout, lots of windows primarily on the sides and back of the house, with a unique embrace of the outdoors. Since the majority of these homes were built in California, encouraging indoor-outdoor living made sense.
