After reading some excellent review on Lohud, for the chefs of the new restaurant in Ardsley called Italian Kitchen , we thought we would try it on the way back from the airport on Sunday night around 8:00 pm. A few people were standing out front who had just left, so we asked how it was. They said that the food was excellent, but small portions
We walked in to this small restaurant that used to be Giuseppes. There were about 5 tables empty. Here is where the big attitude came in. Wewalked up to the long haired hostess with a smile. She does not say hello, but immediately looks at us and says “we are not taking walk ins!”.Nothing more. I said we had not been there before and asked for a menu. She just takes one from the back of her and just forthright gives it to us and says you can take it.
Not what you want to experience first time in a restaurant. How about, hello, welcome to Italian Kitchen. Then, I am sorry we are booked this evening, but if you would like to take a menu and call us or go on Open Table to book another night! I was curious and looked at reviews on Open Table. If you go to the second page of reviews where they start to be more honest, you will see that comments on the food for the most part, are good, but comments on service are not. Perhaps they need to have better training out front, so that the back can continue to create food people may enjoy.
We left with a totally “cold” feeling. So, with a limited menu, with prices equaling other upscale, restaurants, small portions and a not so friendly welcome, we will continue to refer people to and go to Scaramellas just ¼ mile up the road and over the bridge to Dobbs Ferry, where you get a family style welcome, large home made menu, generous portions and service with a smile.
