New legislation has come out that is requiring everyone to register for their 2014 Star deductions. According to Edward Sumber, Esq in our Real Estate In-Depth Newsletter, the State wants to confirm that person applying has an income less than $500,000 and that they are only applying for one home. You must register online by December 31, 2013. This will not apply to your 2013 exemption, but to your 2014 exemption. According to the New York State Tax Division, the New Registration will be able to apply online once you get your code in the mail. Westchester should expect to receive ours the week of 9/30. Once you get the code you can register online. Once you confirm all of your information, you will not have to apply in the future. So, watch your mailboxes for anything coming from the New York State Tax Office. Don’t toss that one in the recycle bin!
